Where was the French language first spread?

In which countries was french known after the franks invaded in france. And Where was it that the French language got in different countries and how?? Anyone, able to answer me that question...?? Plz.. Someone who knows about it!? Thanks a million!

1. All I know about the French spreading their throat-drying language is that it got to England when a French monarch became king of England, and forced everybody to speak French. That's how many French words came to enrich our language. Sorry I can not help you any more, but just in case it helps.....
