How can I finally grasp the French language?
I have been studying French for SIX years, and each year is the same. I never make any improvement. What are some ways that will make me learn the language and make it stick? Will studying abroad help? I can barely hold a conversation in French.

- "I can barely hold a conversation in French" Keep going! Practise, practise, practise.
- I am just back from Aix en Provence after spending a semester there on Erasmus. I can relate to you completely, i went over with very little French, and it goes with out saying that i was thrown in, to the deep end!! I was going to college not understanding anything about the lectures for the first 2 months, but i found French people helpful and they all have at least a low level of English, if not better!! I would recommend studying abroad for definite to improve French! i now can have a proper conversation in French!.... something i thought i would never be able to do at the start of Erasmus! P.s. The worst thing you can do is stick with the other international students! I was there for 4 months, after settling in after a few weeks, i got to know a French crowd that were living in my building and stopped hanging around with the English speaking crowd! The best experience of my live!!! Get in contact if you need anymore advice
- If you REALLY like France...I would go there :) You'll be using it alllll the time...so you won't forget it I'm sure. Otherwise, just keep up your practice by maybe watching movies in French and studying it so you don't ever forget it. Goodluck!! :)
